About Me
My name is Aakansha. I have a passion for helping people. I am understanding, patient, empathetic, friendly and I have good listening skills. Through Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, my role is to study how the clients could understand themselves, as well as develop more positive ways of behaving for their benefit. This is done by facilitating them to replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts which would in turn help them to feel and act positively. I also use a Person-Centered approach by helping the client to identify their strengths and weaknesses. In addition to the former, I incorporate Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Solution-focused Brief Therapy, Spiritual Counselling and Mindfulness based on the client's comfort level during the sessions.

I studied at University at Buffalo, The State University of New York and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) in 2012. I began my Masters in Guidance and Counselling from James Cook University, Singapore in 2014 and I graduated in October 2016. From 2013 to 2015, I worked as a Counsellor at Centre for Psychotherapy. Whilst at Centre for Psychotherapy, I conducted Drug Intervention workshops at Changi Prison, Changi Women’s Prison and Tanah Merah Prison. In addition to the former, I conducted a Youth Enhanced Supervision workshop in collaboration with Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) and Central Narcotics Bureau for drug abusers below 21 years old, as well as workshops for Inhalant Abuse. Besides addiction, I have managed cases based on molestation, anger management, stress, anxiety and Custody Dispute Evaluations.
In order to meet graduation requirements at James Cook University, I completed my Internship at NuLife Care and Counselling Services on 14 Oct 2016.
At NuLife Care and Counselling Services, I saw clients aged 8 years old to 40 years old who had problems such as childhood trauma, domestic violence, domestic issues, health problems and substance abuse.
I wanted to specialise with children and adolescents which is why I joined Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes in 2017 to gain experience with working with that age group. To further my specialisation, I completed a MSc in Child and Adolescent Mental Health at King's College London in December 2019. I am a Registered Member (MBACP) at the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
